Vermont Explorer Tour (Inn/B&B)
Explore the rural Vermont countryside and experience the majesty of Lake Champlain

Meeting Day: Meet in Burlington, Vermont the day before we ride. Come early and enjoy this city on the shore of Lake Champlain. Our group will meet to discuss the bicycle tour, and then head out to dinner together. Tonight’s lodging and dinner is included in the cost of the tour. Contact us if you would like us to help you arrange transportation from the airport.

Day 1: In the morning we follow a bike path along the lake that takes us north out of the city. Once out of the city we wind our way east to the little village of Jeffersonville at the base of Smugglers Notch. Our route takes us pass historic farm houses, white steeple churches, and dairy cows lazily grazing in green meadows. Today we ride 59 miles.

Day 2: After a hearty breakfast we begin our journey south, staying in the foothills of the Green Mountains. As our wheels roll forward we pass through rural meadows, alongside cascading brooks while stands of sugar maples cover the hills. After 46 miles we arrive at the historic Inn at Baldwin Creek B&B. Here we enjoy a hot shower and a gourmet dinner.

Day 3:  In the morning we follow the valley down to the quaint village of Bristol. From here our bicycle tour takes us to East Middlebury. We then cycle along the back roads of Vermont to the shores of Lake Dunmore. Our final destination is the historic town of Brandon. Tonight dinner is on your own.  There are some very fine choices in town. After dinner take a stroll through this beautiful village. Today’s mileage is 34 miles.

Day 4: After breakfast we leave the Green Mountains for the shore of Lake Champlain. As we ride we pass through the Vermont countryside that Ben and Jerry made so famous with their black and white cows. After a short ferry ride across the southern tip of Lake Champlain we stop to explore Fort Ticonderoga. This historical fort played a key role in both the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. Following the shore of Lake Champlain north we arrive at the historical village of Essex. Today’s mileage is 49 miles.

Days 5: Today we explore the beautiful surrounding Essex area. You can sea kayak some of the quiet coves of Lake Champlain, take a swim, bike along some of the area’s country roads, or just relax along the lake with a good book. Tonight we stay in Essex again.

Day 6:  After a delicious breakfast we ride along some of the rolling ridges above Lake Champlain. From these ridges we have spectacular panoramic views of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Champlain, and the Vermont Green Mountains. After experiencing Ausable Chasm we descend to Port Kent to board our ferry for a relaxing return to Burlington. Today’s mileage is 27 miles.
